Extracurricular

Extracurricular matches the vibes as a group of high school students who commit crimes to earn money face unpredictable dangers. It may seem dramatic at times, but the directing and wonderful cast of actors were well received.  The performances of rookie actors who took Netflix as their stage are brilliant. Kim Dong Hee, Park Joo Hyun, Jung Da Bin, and Nam Yoon Soo are at the center of the stage and have become rising stars due to the drama’s success. The show is said to flawlessly capture the dark reality of our society and its bolstering story topped Netflix’s “Korea’s Top 10 Content” immediately.

Friendly Rivalry

From underage smoking and drinking to even same-sex scenes, hit show Friendly Rivalry really pushed the envelope with its suggestive and stimulating content. With Hyeri as the lead, STUDIO X+U’s new series saw nothing but success and mass interest from the public. Based on the popular webtoon, the mystery thriller is set in the ultra-competitive Chaehwa Girls’ High School for Korea’s top 1%. A transfer student becomes entangled with an elite student and her rowdy clique while investigating the mysterious death of her father, a former college entrance exam writer. The intense mental games and suspense made this series a noteworthy performance.

Revenge of Others

Disney Plus struck gold and followed the trends of R-rated teen thrillers. Revenge of Others is a drama about school violence and revenge alongside a popular cast like Shin Ye EunLomon, and even talented rookie actors. The attention-grabbing storyline centers around Chan Mi, who sets out to uncover the truth about the death of her twin brother. However, another student takes revenge on behalf of others as a part of his quest against the unfair, unjust world we call high school. However, as Chan Mi digs deeper, she discovers a shocking secret about her brother that’s completely different from what she had known, finding herself in a world of chaos. Tempted to watch it yet?

Pyramid Game

The TVING original series Pyramid Game was another teen series that garnered massive interest and launched the careers of some fresh-faced actors. The story delves into the dark recesses of high school life at Baekyeon High School’s class 2-5, where students are engulfed in a brutal survival hierarchy determined through secret ballots that designate outcasts monthly. However, after a new student quickly becomes a victim of school violence, they flip the script and lead an unforgettable rebellion. The jaw-dropping plot twists and manipulation of peers with cold precision make you wonder how you even survived high school unscathed.

Hierarchy

Another scandalous teen drama, Hierarchy fuses a rather unique and ridiculous storyline with the suspense and shock of murders, unexpected deaths, and abuse of power, all within the classroom. The show, set in the elite Jooshin High School, explores the upheaval caused by a new transfer student who disrupts the rigid social order upheld by the top 0.01%. From the beginning, fans were enticed by the promotions and impending disruption of a seemingly unbreakable system within Korean society. Although the ending was left with mixed reviews, it makes it even more interesting to watch and see if your own opinions match others who indulge in this out-of-control storyline.

Study Group

Based on a popular ongoing webtoon of the same name, Study Group follows Yoon Ga Min (Hwang Min Hyun), a student whose talents lie solely in combat. However, despite his innate ability as a fighter, Ga Min dreams of academic excellence. The story kicks into gear when he dives into the cut-throat world of college preparation at a school full of delinquents. Amongst the chaos, he somehow forms an unlikely study group that leads him on an adventure of humor and thrills around every corner. All eyes were on Hwang Min Hyun’s fiery transformation, and he was praised for his impactful fight scenes as well.
